When you first started learning to code, you probably built a few very simple web pages with HTML. You probably even added some CSS to style them.

But then what did you do? What should you have done next?

You probably had one of two reactions to building your first web page:

“Wow, this is so cool! I need to build a blog!”

Or:

“This is too hard. I think I’ll just use WordPress.”

If you’re like most people, the latter was probably closer to the truth. After all, if you can just download and install WordPress and get a good-looking site in minutes, why would you want to spend hours coding something from scratch?

Well, my friend, let me convince you otherwise. Coding your own blog is not only fun and empowering, it also gives you an opportunity to learn a lot about coding in general.

In this article, I’ll walk you through the process of creating a blog from scratch with HTML and CSS. Let’s get started!

For me, it’s been a great way to share my stories about startups, marketing and the work I do with charity organizations.

Blogging is also an excellent tool for freelance writers looking to build their portfolio or grow their business.

But before you start building that blog, there are some things you should know first.
