Hi there! Today, I’m excited to announce OpenAI Codex — a tool for people around the world to learn how to code with the world’s most powerful AI.
Many of us are familiar with AIs that can perform increasingly impressive tasks, like playing video games or writing music. But these programs are still quite specialized and require a lot of expertise to build and run. We want an AI that stays true to our original vision: a tool that lets everyone create and experiment with advanced AI features. That’s why we built Codex, a tool that can help anyone get back into coding, whether you’re an experienced programmer or have never written a line of code before.
Because we built Codex in collaboration with researchers from Unity Technologies, it is simple to use with the Unity engine (one of the world’s most popular game engines). To demonstrate this — and make it easier for developers around the world to learn about AI — we are also releasing a free set of sample projects that show how easy it is to get started and understand what’s going on under the hood.

Last year, OpenAI released Universe, a software platform that lets anyone train artificial intelligence to perform tasks in virtual worlds. Universe allows you to use distributed reinforcement learning techniques to train AI agents to complete tasks in existing games and applications.
Over the course of the next few months, we’ll be releasing a series of blog posts about how coders and non-coders can make use of this tool. First up: an introduction to the platform and an overview of the first few environments we’ve added to Universe. Next week, we’ll publish a blog post about how we’re using Universe to train bots for Atari games, and later posts will delve into other fun use cases for the platform.

The best way to use it is as an interactive teaching tool where you select the input text, apply transformations to it and then see how codex generates output based on these changes. You can also use codex as an autocomplete tool if your code editor doesn’t have one built in.
There are two ways you can use Codex:

2) Installing codex locally on your computer with pip install openai-codex (requires Python 3).
AI is smart, and learning how to code is hard. Wouldn’t it be great if we could combine these two things? Well, now we have!

This is the very world Nick Bostrom, a philosopher at Oxford University, described in his 2014 book Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies.
This is the future we may be heading towards if we continue to build smarter and smarter AI that slowly but surely overcomes human intelligence and ushers in an age of superintelligence.
What does this mean for us? How will superintelligent AI impact our lives? Would it be good for humanity or would it spell doom? And if so, how do we prepare for this inevitable future?
To answer these questions and more, OpenAI — an AI research company backed by the likes of Elon Musk and Sam Altman — built an interactive website called Codex that lets you explore the possibilities of a world with superintelligence.
By using neural networks to create images and write text, Codex gives you a glimpse into what a superintelligent AI might look like and how it could interact with knowledge, culture, science and technology to shape our future.
