Why You Should Get Started with GitHub

I have been using GitHub for years and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to develop software in a team environment. This is the first in a series of blogs around using GitHub and why it is important within the development community.

What is GitHub?

GitHub is an open source project that has a robust code platform and allows developers to work on projects together, host code, review code, and manage projects across the software development life cycle. It also offers free public repositories (repos) for users which makes it great for new developers to get started using it.

Why should you use GitHub?

Even if you are working on a solo project that won’t be used by anyone but you, I still recommend hosting your code on GitHub or another git repository service. If you aren’t familiar with git, its a distributed version control system that allows you to track changes within your files and work on multiple versions of those files at one time without losing your previous versions. It’s pretty slick and makes branching out changes easy so you can work on different features without worrying about breaking existing code that works. It also makes it easier to revert back to previous versions of the code if something goes wrong down the line.

The world of open source software is an incredible community to be a part of. Not only are you able to meet and collaborate with talented people across the globe, but you also get to contribute to some major projects that can benefit millions. For many people GitHub has been one of the largest communities for open source software development.

What is GitHub? This is the question I asked before I joined my first open source project and started contributing code. GitHub is a platform that can host and share code, track issues, and collaborate on projects. It’s like Google Docs for software development!

In this article I will discuss why you should get started with GitHub, how it can help your career, and how you can use it even if you’re not a developer.

GitHub has become the leader in hosting software development projects. Now that we have GitHub Codespaces, it’s easier than ever to collaborate and get started with your project. You can even try out a codespace before committing your own machine to developing the project.

First, let’s talk about why you should get started with GitHub. It is a great place for open source projects, as well as for teams collaborating on private projects. The fact that it’s free for public repositories makes it easy to share your work with others in the community.

It also integrates well with other tools you might use, like Slack or Visual Studio Code (VS Code). If you’re using a continuous integration (CI) tool like Travis CI or CircleCI, you can have a status badge on your GitHub repository so people know if their pull requests will be approved or not before they get reviewed. In addition, if you’re using VS Code as your editor, there are several extensions available for working directly from within the editor interface.*

GitHub has changed the way many of us work. The site, which launched a decade ago, is basically a massive library of code that people can share and build on. It’s become an essential tool for developers — and now it might soon become an essential tool for you as well.

Here are four reasons you should get started with GitHub.

1: GitHub makes collaborating on projects much easier.

GitHub is basically a virtual version of Dropbox, but instead of saving Word documents or PDFs, you’re storing lines of code. If you’re working on a project with other people involved, GitHub allows you to all work together at the same time in one place.

2: GitHub allows people to see your work and give feedback.

GitHub is public by default and anyone can see what you’ve built unless you pay for a private account. That means that potential employers could see your work without having to ask for it, which could save them (and you) some time during the interview process. Plus, getting feedback from other people outside of your company is really useful when trying to improve your skillset or fix bugs in your code.

3: There are plenty of tutorials available on how to use GitHub so it’s easy to learn how

One of the most important things to understand in the software development community is GitHub. It is the number one site for developers to host, collaborate and share code. In addition, it is a great way to get your resume noticed by potential employers.

For a long time, GitHub has been the home for developers. It has over 40 million users, hosts 100 million repositories, and is where millions of developers discover, share, and build their careers.

GitHub Codespaces are now available in limited public beta. Sign up to request early access and try it out.

But what makes GitHub so popular? And why should you care as a developer? Let’s take a look.

What is GitHub?

At its core, GitHub is a place where developers can host and review code projects. These projects are usually software applications that are written in programming languages like JavaScript, Python, Ruby and so on.

Users can store the source code for their applications in the cloud using GitHub’s hosting service. They can also keep track of issues and even document their projects on GitHub too. But that’s just scratching the surface of what you can do on GitHub!

The benefits of hosting your code on GitHub

So why should you use GitHub? Well firstly it’s important to note that almost all professional software developers use Git (and by extension, GitHub) when developing software. So if you want to work with other developers or build your own career as a developer

If you’re a developer, chances are you’ve heard of GitHub.

GitHub is a collaboration tool that provides a space for developers to work together on projects. It uses the Git version control system to track changes to code, allowing teams to coordinate and implement code changes together.

Whether you’re trying to learn Git or looking to get started with GitHub, it’s important to understand how they work and what they’re used for. In this article, we’ll explore the basics of GitHub and provide some tips for getting started with it today.
