Congratulations! You’ve decided to finally learn how to code and make your first program. We’re going to start by creating a “Hello, World” program. It’s the classic beginner’s coding project, but it’s also surprisingly useful.

The “Hello, World” program is a simple one-line program that displays “Hello, World”. It’s often used as the starting point for new programmers because they are easy to write and understand.

My goal is to make this one better. This article will show you how to write a program with javascript, which is the most popular language on earth.

How to code your first program.

Let’s start with the basics. What is coding? Coding is telling a computer what to do. But before we can tell a computer what to do, we need to know what computers can do.

Computers are incredibly fast, stupid and precise. They are incredibly fast because they work in nanoseconds (a nanosecond is one billionth of a second). They are stupid because they only understand binary code (that’s the 1s and 0s we see in “The Matrix”). They are precise because they only understand instructions that are 100% accurate.

So now that you know what computers can do, we will learn how to tell them what to do. There are many programming languages out there for different purposes: web development, mobile development, desktop software and systems programming (like operating systems). We will focus on learning JavaScript because it is the best language for beginners to start with.

Why JavaScript?

It’s easy – JavaScript is easy to get started with as it is a high level language and relatively simple compared to other languages like C++ and Java. It has a very straightforward syntax with minimal special characters so it won’t take long for you to get the hang of the basics.

I will be teaching you a method that is taught in elementary schools all over the world.

This method is known as “Pseudo-code” or “Pseudo-programming”. Pseudo-code is meant for you to express an algorithm using words in plain English, instead of using a programming language that a computer can understand. This can be useful for newbies, who don’t know any programming language yet, but want to learn the basics.

Let’s take an example: Write a program that prints “Hello World!” on the screen. The pseudo-code for this would be:

You can learn a lot about coding by actually coding, rather than just reading about it.

This tutorial assumes you know nothing about programming (though if you’ve tried to program before and gotten stuck, this tutorial might be a good starting point). It’s aimed at people who aren’t programmers but want to learn computer science, and have fun doing so.

Even though there are hundreds of different programming languages, they all work in the same way: you tell the computer what to do. In this tutorial we’ll use Python – a popular programming language used by companies like Google, Facebook, Dropbox and NASA – to show you how programming works.

Don’t worry if you don’t understand some of what we’re writing. The goal of this tutorial is to get you up and running with Python as quickly as possible. We’ll cover everything again in more detail later on.
